UK Pushing Forward With Food Processing and Manufacturing

Several dozen UK-based food manufacturing and processing companies have received government grants, bonds and funding in the sum of £11 million. This money is designed to solidify the UK’s footing as a major food producer and manufacturer going forward by giving these companies the means to improve their technology, equipment and facilities. In addition to the money given to them by the government, the companies participating in this program have also invested £12 million of their own money, giving them an even greater amount of liquid assets to spend on improvements. If you’re interested in learning more about these plans to improve UK-based food manufacturing and processing.

According to one study, consumers in the UK throw away over £20 billion worth of food each year. This statistic is certainly shocking no matter how you look at it. Thankfully, however, one of the goals with this latest project is to increase the shelf life of meat, veggies and fruit for a longer period of time; therefore, lowering the amount of food that’s thrown away. The fact is that we as a society can’t afford to throw away that much food each year, and the UK government is looking for a solution to this familiar problem.

This project is also focused on improving the efficiency of bakery lines and products. If some of the leading bakery companies in the UK can churn out a greater amount of products in less time, they will become more profitable. As a side effect, it could potentially lower the price of bread, doughnuts, cakes, cookies, dough and other baked goods, which is something all consumers could benefit from.

Although some of the £23 million invested into this project will go directly towards new equipment and facilities, most of it will be used for research and technology development. Food manufacturing and processing is one industry that benefits the most from research and development, which is why the money is being used for it. By inventing or discovering a new preservation technique, companies could save millions of pounds on their product.

Energy efficiency is another area that’s going to be targeted with this project. If we want to leave a world behind for our children that we can be proud of, we must shift our focus towards clean and renewable energy sources. When one company starts using energy-efficient products and technology, others will jump on the bandwagon as well.
